How do I copy contacts from old phone?

I've got an old sony errikson which obviously has all my contacts on. I've just got the hero, and want to import my old phonebook. I've put the old sim card in the hero, but can see no way of copying the info off the sim.
I synced the hero with the old card in it to my pc. Will this have copied the info over, and do I just sync the phone again to have the info copied over.
I notice that all my gmail contacts are on the new phone. I assume using gmail on it has just carried it over, but no phone numbers.
Any advice on best way to do this, much appreciated.

With the SIM with your old numbers on it in the phone, go into the People app- Menu, Import
