How do I disable my slide down to unlock featur

I have an HTC Incredible I that has the annoying slide down to unlock feature. Occasionally and seemingly at random the slide to unlock feature goes away and the phone remains unlocked for days or until I hit the power off button. Does anyone know what keystroke or combination of keystrokes disables the slide to unlock. I saw a post that said "bumping" the menu button may do it. Can anybody confirm that.
