Help How do i get rid of google ads

I'm running nexus 6p with stock 6.0.1,and a couple of days back i started getting ads like those below show started showing up in the desktop or whatever app I'm using at the time. I've had multiple android devices over the years and never encountered anything like this. How do I getting rid these? I've tried blocking pop ups in google chrome, but it doesn't work.

Have you been sideloading apps and games from outside of Google or Amazon? e.g. using Chinese app stores or warez sites and things?

If it isn't already, time to get it rooted. Install F Droid, and then find AdAway, which will need root privileges to update the Hosts file. It does a good job of killing ads in *most* apps.
