Ok - I got back on the official OTA upgrade path and I'm on 5.5.893 stock & rooted. I'm interested in trying to install the 5.5.901 leak to try it out, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it.

    I've tried this method:

Easy way to update to .901 rooted - RootzWiki

but all I get is the Android with the triangle and "!" - no option to chose the .901 zip file no matter how long I wait.

I've tried scouting around a bit, but nothing else seems to make sense to me as to how I can do this even though I know others have been successful. Can someone point me towards other methods or some more complete instructions? Thanks much!

When you get the andoid and triangle press both the volume buttons at the same time. That should get you into stock recovery. From there you will be able to select the file for the update.

Pushing both volume buttons did the trick! It installed and, about 10 minutes after it rebooted, the 3G radio came back up and seems to be working great. I'll have to try out the 4G when I get home tonight.

Thanks for the tip! I knew I was missing something! :D

Can one get back to stock .893 if they go to .901 for a test drive?

I made the mistake of going to 7.893 with the leak and we all know how that was for a while. Could only go back to .886 non-stock.

I made myself a backup of my stock, rooted .893 with CWM before I tried installing .901 just in case something went wrong or I needed to go back for an OTA. But if something goes bad wrong, you can always use dhacker & DroidTh3ory's rooting method to get back to .886 in the "All Things Root Guide" thread and go from there.

(I soft-bricked my phone messing with the .901 radio files a week back and that's how I managed to get myself unstuck after a bunch of swearing and sweating. :D)

Yes, it's much easier now with the release of the leaked 5.5.893 FXZ file.

In fact, currently, everything but 901 simply requires flashing that FXZ. The 901 release requires an additional step.

2 steps and you're flying high at 5.5.893.

Sweet. I may give .901 a shot then to see if it improves/corrects my data drops.

You are always so helpful. Thanks.

    Quick question:

What process do you recommend/suggest to use to accomplish reverting back?
I had used your method when you first posted about the FXZ file being released using RSD Lite. Would that still be the way to go?

If your havin bad data drops then .901 will deffinately help. Thats what helped me.

you may be on the 3g, 4g bubble.... so after you get .901 you might want to go to cdma mode only. that will help you stay on a solid 3g connection.
you can use LTE switcher in the Android Market to get there easier.

crpeck has written a new file that will take care of all this. It's working for Linux and Mac atm, but I'm working on nailing down the batch files for Windows.

You cannot say it will definitely help. You can only say that it helped you. Even if everyone you've talked to says it has helped, it's not guaranteed - a lot has to do with service area as well, and if the dropped connections are b/c of VZW running into issues on their end, no amount of firmware is gonna help - when they drop, they drop and everyone is affected.

I ran a poll last year about the benefits (or not) of running .893 versus .886 and found that while 60%+ said there was at least a minor improvement, ~35% said it actually got at least a little bit worse and ~11% said it made it unbearable.
