    ^Aggie has ya covered..

Just wanted to add.. be sure to use D2 Bootstrapper, b/c DX Bootstrapper doesn't work as well with GB.

Wow, you guys are great and exact about such things...cool.:D

I'll do this process when I know I have a couple hours when I don't need my phone as I'm on-call and have to have my phone ready for use all the time when on-call.

Assuming all goes well...is this a 30-45 min process with all the steps?

    Best Regards,

It depends if you have everything ready to go. I would suggest if your time is limited then get everything for the sbf ready to go. And download all the files while you're just chillin. So when the time comes it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes. Longest part will be the sbf

    That's a good plan, I'll do that.

How about my Apps and there data from prev ROM, etc??? Is there a easy way to retain all the data and credentials that went with some paid apps when doing this conversion? If not too easy , then I may just clean by wiping anyway to slowly add essential Apps back to monitor any "not so friendly" apps before committing to having them on my clean, stock, rooted GB ROM anyway.

Any comments on Custom ROMs or is that still somewhat unreliable on GB or is GB clean and fast enough?

You can back up your apparently with titanium backup. But restoring so many might cause some funny stuff to happen I would only restore the apps that you absolutely need. And one by one maybe. I would say make a backup as soon as you get to gingerbread then restore the apps. That way if it's detrimental to your system then you can restore and try again there

So Aggie12, Can I just use the bootable Linux CD by 1KDS to take care of all the things mentioned in my OP about updating my DX with rooted Apex 1.3.1 to GB and then root the GB for custom ROM's??? Or will that bootable Linux CD just get me sbf'd back to .340 and then will I just do the OTA update and then root w/ z4?

Thanks again for all the advice.

GB cannot be rooted once it's on your device, unfortunately. So what you'll do is use that Linux CD to get you back to stock, barebones .340. Then you will want to root with z4. Then upgrade to GB using the 2 part updater found here. This will put you on .596 rooted. Not deodexed though.

I'm on my last stretch to GB after sbf'ing back to .340 and then z4rooted and have to ask for guidance before going further...

Oh well, I followed the steps the best of my understanding and ...what do ya' know it all worked out but with a little sweating in-between.

Thanks and really looking forward GB rooted to use tomorrow.

    Best regards,
