How do I install an FTP client to use apps that transfer via wi-fi from my computer to my phone?

I want to use one of the many apps on the market that can transfer files (pictures, etc.) via wi-fi between my phone and my computer. But I need an FTP client to do this. I tried downloading and installing Filezilla (the regular app, not available as an .apk) but couldn't get it to open and install.

Any ideas?

If you're on Windows, you can simply use the Explorer (under Mac it's only read-only and little use, but the Windows client works remarkable well). Just open an Explorer window and enter your cell phone's IP, the port and the ftp:// moniker.

For example for SwiFTP this would work:
ftp://192.168.1.101:2121/sdcard/
provided that your phone is at 192.168.1.101 . SwiFTP will dispaly the correct IP to use instead.
