How do I setup my phone to use data instead of voice minutes? I am sort of a newb and reading a guide is sort of like reading a forgein language to me. I also heard that people that got this to work succsessfully heard the sound coming from their back speaker. So is there anyway to do this? I also cant root my phone because the I cant get the drivers for my usb to work. I tried z4root but I have no idea if it actually rooted it or not. If someone wants to post here or pm me their IM so they can walk me through this it would be really really appreciated.

I tried those drivers and they didnt work for some reason. Any idea how to set my phone up to use gvoice cal back or sipdroid or gizmo5 to use data minutes to have it go through data instead of minutes.
If your friends are using Android or iPhones, you can download TiKL from
either Market Place. This is a push to talk application that allows you all
to communicate using your phone's data plan rather then phone minutes.
HOWEVER: Be sure that all of your friends have an unlimited data plan
or they are mindful of the amount of data they use.
TiKL doesn't need you to root your phone, sell your first born child or
otherwise cheat your cell provider. My wife and I use daily and find
that it helps us stay in touch without burning through our plan minutes
to do so.

I found that version of skype but then I realized that i'd have to pay for an account and I would rather use sipdroid or csipsimple and Gvoice Call back.

google voice does not allow this. i cant remember all of the lingo but I was trying to do this as well and finally found on their website that it is not allowed. they send the phone call thru another number which in turn calls your phone and vice versa. once you install the app and use it, if you go back and look at your phone activity you will see a totally different number listed as the number the call went thru.
alot of people had found a way around this by determining what the number was and saving it in their "circle" (other poviders) so that it was free but because this was being done, it is now a different number each time a phone call is made.
as much as i have searched to use my phone for free- i have realized that, it simply cant be done.
i still use google voice, i just have it set up not to ring my phone. i give this number out to bill collectors, people i dont want to know my real number, etc. it has a seperate voicemail that doesnt tie into your phone and if they really need to talk to me, they can leave a msg and i will call them back using the app so they dont have my real number.
