I just found a Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1010 running on firmware 2.2.1. It seems to be in perfect working order but I am wondering how to update the operating system and do a few other things.

I reset the device to factory default and the Play Store disappeared! How do I get that back?

Also, I know that Kies is used for doing a lot of these types of things. Which version should I use? Is it possible to download a backward compatible version for this device?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

I had my Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 a day then upgraded to lollipop, I'm on nougat now. You need a program called Odin to root it with CF auto root and TWRP recovery program

Thank you for this info. I will see if I can figure this out. How do I get the programs onto the tablet though? I don't see a playstore app.

Wow, that's an oldie ... jury's still out on whether or not it's a "goodie" too. ;)

Officially that stopped at Android 2.3.6 (Gingerbread) which is probably not going to find much support in the play store, especially since it wasn't even the play store then. Here's an article I found about using CM10 in the P1010, but I don't have one of these so I can't test. I'm not even sure if the linked files still exist. In the end you're going to end up with 4.2.1, which is a bit better than what you've got now, but I'd say if you can't get it up to at least 4.4, don't bother.

The latest update I could find for your device is Android Gingerbread. The Play Store was called Andoid Market back then. You must of had a custom ROM on your find. Do you have Android Market on the device?

No matter which version of Android, stock or custom, the hardware specs on this model are just marginal at best. With only half a GB of RAM, and a dated CPU and GPU no matter how much you alter and tweak it there will always be some inherent limitations. Use it to do what it is capable of doing and just don't expect too much.
