how do you do a factory reset when your phone is locked

Hello and welcome aboard.

Here's a post I found:

If you are talking about a screen lock password, then after a fixed number of incorrect entries your phone should prompt you for the password for the gmail account the phone is registered to. If that doesn't work, shut off the phone, log into the gmail account on a website and change the password using Google's password recovery https://www.google.com/accounts/recovery?gaps. Once the new password is confirmed, turn on the phone and try using the new password.

Also, if you are having problems doing the above steps, then here is how to do a "factory reset."

1. Turn the power off. If your HTC Desire S is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it 2. Hold the Volume Down button 3. Press and hold the Power button until the device turns on 4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock 5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button 6. Press and release the Power button 7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO All data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC Desire S. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

I hope this works for you. Thanks for joining these forums. :)
