How do you get the Google search back?

The default screen always has a Google search
Here if you type something, but sure Web results AND gives you search results of apps on the phone

If you delete and and again as a widget, you ONLY get the Web results - how do I get the app search results?

I've had this problem on all of my android phones

I must be missing something?

Try going to your phone's Apps menu and tap on the Google app itself to open it. In the upper menubar tap on your user account pic and then in the resulting page tap on Your data in Search. The should be an array of options and settings, including Web & App Activity, that relate to that Search Bar widget.
