This may have been asked before but how do you keep the screen from going dim or off completely when you using apps? The only app that seems to keep the screen from going dim is Navigation. If I use an app like Google Maps it goes dim and then dark at the set time. I would like it to stay on specifically when it's got the charger hooked to it. It will only go dim with the charger on but I'd like it to stay bright. Or do I have to change my setting to "never turn off" everytime I want it to stay on? Thanks.

I use KeepScreen. It's free and works really good. You tell it what programs you want the back light to always remain on for and it does. You might have to try it more then once, it did a force close the first time I ran it but has been running good ever since.

I've been sucessfully using a free app called Screen On. Same idea as noted above, and I haven't had any issues at all. It allows you to select what apps you want the screen to stay on while using, and it works fine. I have it set to stay on while browsing the web, and using the albums. I hated it when it would go dim while showing off my pictures.

So does keep screen continually run in the background? How much ram does it use? Thanks

You can also change the settings to screen always on when charging by going to settings|applications|develpoment - Stay awake

I used to use keep screen on my moment, but I hated that it ran in the background. So I downloaded a widget from the market, just used that when I needed it to stay on.

Settings<Sound & Display<Screen Timout<Never timeout. Not an app, uses no memory, and doesn't run in the background. I don't get why anyone wants thier screen to blackout while they are using it. It annoys the crap outta me when someone shows me thier phone and the screen dims out on it. When you put your phone down don't you hit the end button anyways?

When you put it that way, I always hit the end button when I put my phone down.

I've turned off the screen timeout.

If you turn off the screen timeout, does the screen stay fully lit whenever you are talking on the phone? That is the one time I think I want it to at least dim.

Yes, unless you use an app like Proximity Sensor, which will turn off the screen while the phone is next to your face. But, i seem to recall that it requires the auto backlight to be turned on..hmmm

Only a minor inconvenience... I have a widget to dim the screen, so I can use that... ;)

I've checked appbrain and the KeepScreen app download is 35KB. It's very small and works great for NAV, E-mail and picture viewing ect... I've also looked it up on Astro and it shows 0% CPU usage. I can't see how anyone could be worried about this running in the background.

I had that exact same question.

I turned off the screen timeout, and I took a call.

The screen went black while I was on the call.
