I really don't understand the idea behind "hibernation" because what Greenify does on my device is just forcing stop the apps that are running in the background. Which I guess is actually what all the task killers do. What is hibernation exactly and how is it different from task killers?

Is it like this because I'm not rooted? If so, when not rooted, I might as well just use every other task killer for the job? What's the difference exactly? (Aside from Greenify is able to monitor the apps so that it doesn't stop the apps that need to run in the background like Spotify.)

No you dont wanna use task killers they are snakeoil. While dreenify does work deeper with root it can be used unrooted. greenify keeps apks asleep while task managers and 'junk cleaners,' render youre OS sick and you have to keep stopping/freezing apks 3-5 mins after you froze them. NOT WITH GREENIFY its a true battery saver and not a front that promises savings and dont deliver like DU battery saver etc. ALL junk. Greenify is the best PERIOD. task managers and those alike are snakoil (FAKE) android takes care of itself. Just reboot youre device once a day and you will be waaaay ahead of these crap apks with high ratings that make youre phone worse. There is a good thread in here (AF) titled The Myth About Battery Savers And Task Managers. I recommend all read up on this! Good day my fellow Android Fanatics!

duh u said u werent rooted above lmao! ok my bad. Ya Greenify bro. Holler at me if need be. But read up on it and play around a bit and test the waters if you will. Without root Greenify will/can disable/freeze youre user apks. With pro version one can freeze/disable system apks. However one cannot doze/freeze/disable a system apk without root. just a lil FYI

Well thats ok. It will still disable youre apks with the push of its widgets button! Better than doing it manually every time my friend!

There are also different 'modes,' ie aggressive doze or light doze or a combo of both really. Its real good at holding apks down when needed/wanted! Ive used Greenify for years along with 100's of Super/non-super users. Pro version has even more depth of features and also has a companion apk called island where one can sandbox and run cloned apks! Tellin ya GREENIFY IS THAT APK SON! Combined with the ever popular Amplified battery/wakeblock/lock or other wake/alarm/block apk (which does req root) and BLAAAAM good as batt-saving gets bruh!

Never should your phone or tablet become slower and battery hungrier after lots of apps installed. With Greenify, your device can run almost as smoothly and lastingly as it did the first day you had it! Greenify help you identify and put the misbehaving apps into hibernation when you are not actively using them, to stop them from lagging your device or leeching the battery, in a unique way! They can do nothing without explicit launch by you or other apps, while still preserving full functionality when running in foreground. Please report bugs in the XDA forum (http://goo.gl/ZuLDnE) or G+ community (http://goo.gl/MoszF). Greenify NEVER EVER collects your personal data despite the capability of accessibility service, it just takes advantage of it to automate the hibernation procedure.
IMPORTANT:
Greenifying an app implies that you are aware that all the background functionality (service, periodic task, event receiver, alarm, widget update, push message) of this app will become out of service during the hibernation except when you are using this app. NEVER greenify alarm clock apps, instant messaging apps unless you don't rely on them. Please do verify the impact of greenified apps on which you heavily rely.
Note: Greenify does need background running services for auto-hibernation to work. It is designed and implemented in extremely lightweight and nearly zero CPU and battery consumption. === PERMISSIONS === DEVICE ADMIN: This app uses administrator privilege to turn off the screen immediately after automated hibernation on non-root devices. This permission will be requested explicitly for your consent only if required. DRAW OVER OTHER APP: To dim the screen during automatic hibernation when the screen is expected to be off.
