Please download "GPS Test" from the Android Market.

List how many satellites you get "In View" and how many "In Use".

    In View: 12
    In Use: 0

Using Samsung Vibrant....my former G1 had 8, which is why I want an Incredible if it has a better GPS.

9 in view, 9 in use and I'm on the first story of a 2 story house. I'm so happy with my Dinc GPS. My Omnia used to take like 5 minutes to find any sats. My Dinc takes 2-3 seconds while indoors and 1 second outdoors. Simply amazing. Better than my Garmin.

The number of satellites in view will not be the same for everyone due to a variety of factors(like buildings in the way and which satellites are currently overhead). If you want to compare the quality of the GPS receiver on the two phones, you will need to get them side by side. I suggest going in to a Verizon store and downloading the app.

My biggest issue with the GPS isn't the hardware but the software. Next to my dedicated in-car unit, Android typically chooses less than ideal routes to a destination, especially when involving many secondary roads. Also less display options like compass, speed, themes, night-mode, etc.

In the end however, a GPS's main purpose is to get you to a location as efficiently as possible, for this reason I'll always pick my Tomtom over my cell phone to do this for me.

I do agree with this 100% BUT its nice when your on a short trip and you know general directions but are a bit unsure and you dont have your primary GPS...or with a friend with no GPS. And for a secondary function i think the GPS in the Inc is very good. But i agree with the routes...some of them im just like WTF...when it sends you down a side road to cut 5 miles instead of jumping on an interstate. But, when im not in a hurry i take that route and see some sites.

funny, the built-in nav app has night-mode. but yes, missing out on the other options.

also, how do you see the listings of how many satellites in view/use?

i used gps test a lot on my winmo which took 30 seconds to get a fix. with the incredible.. all i do is hit the gps widget and open navigation, and it has me fixed right away. will still tryout ur app.

After testing: 7 in view 7 in use and im inside a building.
