Probably a while since the Milestone doesn't even have them yet and it's the same method. Motorola doesn't want us with custom roms :(

Root does not guarantee custom roms, ever. Bootloader issue still exists with the droid x so as of now there won't be any custom roms. Root allows stuff like bloatware removal, wifi tether, file management, etc. Until they figure out a way to get into the bootloader without breaking the phone, there won't be any custom roms.

We will need a massive farm of computers to brute force the encryption (not likely at all, like zero chance of that happening) or somebody inside Motorola will have to release the Key (very possible), or Motorola to realize it is in their best interest to allow boot loader access and open it up to those that want, provided they understand they will receive no warranty support.

Other than those three scenarios, abandon all hope ye who enter. lol

    Start counting down from 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Perhaps when you get to zero we will have a hacked bootloader. ;)

I am under the impression that there is also an EXTREMELY LOW chance that the hackers will figure out a way to completely bypass the boot loader. I personally am going to stay pessimistic though: it made root pretty sweet for me today, and it also insures that it won't be much of a let down if we don't get custom ROMs.
