You are a good friend to the board. I appreciate the honesty. Nothing that has been posted so far makes it worthy for me to root. I really, really like this phone! I'm sure it can be better, but I can be patient.

Backlight for the physical keyboard? I never use that keyboard so I haven't noticed, although the capacitive buttons on the bottom are backlit like normal.

As far as the live wallpaper, yeah, I agree. I had the cool green smoke and then the interactive water, but it made it really laggy going into my apps folder. . . So that blows.

That's too bad about the downloaded apps. Hasn't happened to me YET. My most important apps are probably handcent and meridian movie player. Hopefully it won't screw them up.

So, are they still working on getting these things fixed? Or are they just leaving it as is?

Oh yeah they are continually working towards a 100% functioning ROM. And they are supposed to be assembling a dev team. Check the link I supplied for info.

@BARBARA Thank You for the kind words :)

i just did mine and loaded the 2.1 rom from greek.

the live wallpapers are unusable. they cause lag and reboots.

I will gladly trade the 2 extra home screens for the keyboard lights. In fact the keyboard lights are partially fixed. they light up most of the time. i am sure they will have it fixed shortly.

the 5 homes screens and the new program menu is sweet.

one other thing i noticed is there is a mic button built into the keyboard so you can speech to text on almost anything. I have not tried it yet so i am not sure how good it works

the only small issue i have had is when switching from landscape to portrait mode sometimes there is a small delay before i can switch screens. doesn

I will if it looks like 2.1 is going to be pushed out to us too long after January and/or if the custom roms begin to add functionality I'm keen on.

Sooner or later it'll probably happen. But hey, this is my first android phone (first smartphone really...was rocking an ipod touch and a RAZR knockoff before this) so I'm easing my way in. =D

I did it, just so I could remove unwanted apps from the menu bar and change the task bar appearance.

When I hear about some cool benefits of doing so, im gonna leave it alone. Im not a very techy person and the pros in no way out way the cons...maybe im misinformed.

    Hi all,

Can someone explain to me the 'Rooting' idea? I am new to the Droid (3 days). Is rooting similar to debranding? Yes, I know I could probably google it and after a few hours be wise to the process and advantages but I would rather a fellow Droid explain it to me.

    Many thanks

    Kilted

I haven't yet. There isn't really anything that exciting that root can offer me right now. Plus, I'm kind of hoping we get 2.1 on our phones sometime soon, and that will require a whole new root process anyways. Not worth the risk for me right now.
