OK, so, I rooted using Unrevoked 3.21 last week. I'm anxious to get the OTA though, as it addresses the multiple gmail sync issue that has been a problem for me since 2.2.

I've already found I can't simply apply the OTA as is (I get the yellow ! warning while it tries to update).

So my question is, what is the simplest way to apply the OTA, ideally without wiping data, etc.? I've been trying to read some of the other methods but they seem to involve flashing whole new ROMs, etc. and I'm basically just looking to update as is and retain root (or at least be able to run unrevoked 3.21 again).

I'm hoping someone can post step by step what needs to be done - as the main reason I used unrevoked 3.21 in the first place was its 1-click nature.

I had the same situation as you. I rooted using the same method yesterday before the OTA update. This is what I did and didnt wipe or lose aqny data:
1: I downloaded the manual Ota update via the link on @unrevoked on twitter. Install the zip file to the root of your sd card. (main sd directory,ie. not inside any folders.
2: use rom manger to go to your clockwork mod's recovery and select "install zip from sd". select the ota zip and it will do the rest. Just follow the commands and wait for the reboots and loading etc.etc.
3: Only thing is, although you will have the official ota update now, you will need to re-root using the same unrevoked method as before. It's a pain but alot easier then wiping or unrooting, updating and then re-rooting. Its simple, just use th manual update from @unrevoked and re-root. Nothing lost. It works with no problem. Im a newb and just finished and everything is super.Enjoy the new HTC

PS. sorry for not giving the actual link. Its easier if you just go to twitter and find @unrevoked.

Can't thank you enough. This all worked perfectly.

This is actually the first time I've used ROM Manager (had to download and install it), but pretty straightforward (for anyone else who comes across this thread, if you don't want to manually locate the zip file on your SD card, I think you can just rename it to update.zip and choose the menu option to update with that). But glad to have installed it, going to look into it more - I've been nervous about dealing with various ROMs but it sounds like ROM Manager might make things easier.

Anyway, thanks again - I still need to run Unrevoked 3.21 again, but this is exactly what I was looking for.

Hopefully this thread and your instructions will be helpful to anyone else with the same situation I had.

EDIT: Just to update, I just ran Unrevoked 3.21 after applying the OTA, and everything re-rooted just fine, and stuff like setCPU is now working just like before.

Very happy EVO user right now.

You say "Install ZIP from SD" but the only option I see is "Install ROM from SD." Same thing? Just making sure before proceeding.

It also asked if I wanted to back up current ROM or wipe data.

The 2nd guy who posted used rom manager so idk if that is the same as install zip. I went to the custom recovery screen ,wher they give you options for nandroids/wipe/flash zip from sd. etc.

Are you rooted with unrevoked 3.2.1? Also I didnt install any other roms other then the stock rom that was with the unrevoked root.

So you didn't use Rom Manager at all? I'm not sure what you mean by custom recovery screen. Would you be so kind as to give me a step-by-step?

Edit: I believe I found what you were talking about. It says installation complete, but upon reboot I get an open box with a yellow arrow coming out of it pointing to a little android. Sounds ungood...

    Re-edit: I'm impatient.

I dont remember step by step because I was half asleep. I am very new at this rooting stuff and I was able to do it with no hitches. I just checked rommanager and you can get the recovery screen with all the options from there. Go to rom manager and selct"reboot to recovery" When the recovery screen comes up go down to "go back", this will give you a 2nd list of options. from there select "install zip from sd". That will list all your files. go down and select the OTA update zip that you downloaded and vwa'la. follow the instructions and wait for all the reboots. even though some of the startup screns may take a while, just wait.

thats good as long as the box is open and the droid don't have a sad face. once finish you will still have your root apps but can't use untill you re-root.

The only thing I used ROM Manager for was to get into the Recovery Menu - if I understand it correctly, you can do the same thing manually (I think by holding down the power button and volume down while the phone is turning on).

I have netarchy installed. Do I have to do anything special or just follow adonis4g's steps?

If you are rooted with a differnt rom then the stock from unrevoked. then you should follow the xda link above to download that rom, but it may have you wipe, not sure. Or you can unroot, do the OTA then re-root with unrevoked.
