How do you block the spam number in text? I can do it with regular calls, but don't see the feature in the text area. Recently I've been getting more spam text. I went 9 months with no spam text, but two months ago, it started up, a few, but getting more frequent. Very irritating!

Option exists in Message settings. Open message and tap on 3 verticle dots on top right You can block specific numbers and/or messages with specific phrases.

Nope no 3 vertical dots, no option to block. What you showed works for blocking numbers from the phone app. The messaging app completely different.

The opportunity to block a number will vary by messaging application. As is also the case with phone dialer applications.

My phone messaging program and dialer both allow blocking (HTC). Besides that my carrier (Sprint) lets you forward spam texts to Sprint company HQ where they investigate and try to stop spam at the source. They have a special short code to put in as the forwarding recepient. 7726 is the short code (which coincidentally reads as SPAM in a phone dialer utilizing the letters behind the numbers.)
There is also a way to log into the carriers website and block numbers at an account level higher than at the regular device level

This is carrier specific but maybe your carrier has a similar program in place?

Same. Could be my messaging app... I might have to go with a different one, but I like this app, except for not being able to block a messaging number.

Your probably right about the different messaging app.
What messaging app would you recommend. I kinda hate to have to get use to another app though. I like mine, except for the blocking issue.
The phone part itself has the blocking and boy do I get a lot of those telemarketing ones. I never answer calls as I'm deaf though, I text only, but still irritating when these calls show up on my phone.
    I'm with Verizon.

I apologize, I don't have any good application recommendations for you. I use the stock one which came with my phone a few years ago. It is a great application but I have learned that the application has since been discontinued.

It looks like Verizon has adopted a similar strategy that Sprint has. Check out this link: (particularly #3)
    https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/spam-controls-faqs/

You should be able to forward your questionable messages to 7726. The link also helps show you how to block numbers via your online account.

Not the same on my phone... different messaging app I guess. I switched to FB messenger which allows me to block numbers.

Had this large update from Verizon on my Edge S7 a couple days ago... and a lot of new updated features, the best one being a better messages program... lot's more options including "blocking" the text message spam numbers I've been getting. Best update yet.
    Loving my Edge 7:D

So, in the verizon messaging app itself....there is no way to block the number? I have to go to the My Verizon app to add the number to block it?????
