Help How to Connect to the Internet via USB cable?

Please could somebody advise how can I connect to the Internet using Samsung Galaxy SII which is connected to my notebook (Win XP) through USB cable?

I tried to activate option Settings -> Wireless networks -> Tethering and portable hotspots -> USB tethering. But when I activate it nothing happens. Internet does not work, I checked with ipconfig from command line but no IP address is assigned.

Internet sharing using Portable Wi-Fi hotspot works but I do not want to use it as it exhausts the battery.

Please advise. Thank you in advance!

well yeah. thats wat u do. have u selected USB debugging mode? coz the last time i used it, it wasnt on, so maybe it wont work if it is on. settings/applications/development/usb debugging mode. maybe try with it turned off?

coz u've done it right, thats all u need to do

Its more likely to be something on your pc than the phone. If you can't get it to work just use wifi hotspot and plug it in your notebook to charge on usb cable.

I just used this while traveling overseas. For whatever reason, the initial connection took a while to be identified. Give it a few minutes.
