I used an app called Virtual Recorder that records in ipd (i think that's the file). If anybody has went thru this before, can you please tell me how to convert this into a mp3? I already tried using Audacity to convert it, but it did not do any good. It made the audio sound like a chipmunk was talking. So I'd appreciate any ideas.

Oh I absolutely can't stand that program either. I just figured I would recommend it to the OP since its free, and reletively easy to use to just convert audio. Video on the other hand, forget about it lol.

In that case, try also Format Factory. Simply open it and select All To Mp3.

Ok. So it didn't work. The only thing I can think of is playing the pcm file off my phone and link it to a digital recorder. As strenuous as it may sound, I know for a fact that it's going to work. Thank you Usta and sitlet for your help.

So do you guys or anybody else know a better app that records strictly mp3, or ogg at the very least?

    Thanks again. Later.

First of all, the Virtual Recorder that you are using, records in PCM format, which then can be converted to MP3 directly on the phone. You get a Market link to download FreeMP3Droid app, that does the conversion for you. :)

Second, you can try another recorder, like Hi-Q MP3 Recorder. This will record it immediately in mp3 format.

Third, Format Factory should have been able to convert your file. I have done similar conversions and it was fine. Not sure what is the issue here.

Forth, you can use an online converter to do the job. Try for example media-convert.com
You can also use a more serious tool on PC to convert PCM files to mp3.

Hi, I just registered to this forum just to help you with this issue, though i'm not sure if you need it anymore. Anyways, I'm using Virtual Recorder and was having this same problem when converting pcm files to mp3, resulted in chipmunk voices. This might help other people as me who googled this problem and found this thread.

someone commented here: http://www.appstorehq.com/virtualrecorder-android-162707/app under the name of Ozzy,

So, this basically is the answer. I used AVS Audio Converter and it was not necessary to change the file extension to .raw, because avs already recognizes this format. Converted it to mp3 in economy quality (64kbps) and it sounds great.

    Steps:
I suppose if your audio converting software does not recognize pcm, you can change the file extension to .raw and that should do it.

For the pcm file, configure this settings in your audio converter software :
    - Set sample rate to 22050.
    - Set sample size to 16 bit.

This are settings for the input file in the conversion. In this case, the pcm file is the input file we want to convert.

Then (the ouput) convert to mp3. That should work.

I really don’t know how it is done, but Faasoft PCM Converter has that feature of converting PCM to MP3, WAV, etc, and I didn’t have any problem using that function.
