Help how to "downgrade" from GB 2.3.6 to Froyo 2.2

the only way you can downgrade is through Odin.
You need to download a few files, Odin software, Cooper.ops file, Froyo firmware of your region and the flash guide.
You can get all of these at sammobile.com

Whenver you want to go from Froyo to Gb you can use Kies as long as you are not rooted or you can use Odin also, For GB to Froyo Odin is the only way. Odin will flash a fresh FW on your device, thereby wiping all phone content.(SD card excluded)
Make sure to bakup your contacts, sms, calender, etc before u start.
And read the guide carefully, if done wrong, it can damage your phone.

1. you can install official firmware as well. you will have to use odin as explained by ayush

2. you can later upgrade via kies if you flash official firmware.

3. its pretty safe.. just make sure you know what you are doing and follow the process correctly.
