Help how to erase phone data?

The Moment's time is up and i'm moving to the Nexus S.
Having said that, if I want to sell my phone or give it to a family member, how do I erase all of the data from the phone?

I've never had any credit information or financials like such, but with the security risks of the digital era, i'd just like to erase anything on the phone. The SD card is staying with me (guess it just makes me feel safer?), but contacts, google account, etc. i'd like to erase.

Any help is appreciated.

I was wondering if it was that easy.
So this will erase all scripts/passwords/cookies/etc. from the phone?

And will the factory reset take the phone back to Android 1.5, or will it stay as Eclair 2.1 (the latest update we got)?

Wiping data will not revert the OS, that requires flashing the phone and can be quite involved. It will revert the phone to how it was/would be if it were freshly purchased.

yeah, factory reset will clear it out.
on very rare occasion, the gmail account will stay sync'ed. Usually just wiping it again will fix that problem.
If you want a little more "safe feeling" take it to the sprint store and their tech can/will clear it. Don't know if he really does anything differently or not, but if the tech does it, then sprint takes liability for it, so it is possible that they clear the data, then fill it with "nothing" info, then wipe it again so the old data can't be recovered.

But either way, once the device "lets go" of your gmail account, you're all set. The gmail account holds the credit info and all of that. It isn't in the phone.
