    --Install from sdcard...
    Finding update package...
    Opening update package...
    Verifying update package...

I had the experimental 2.2 installed, and was rooted. had sprecovery on. I restored back to 2.1 and flashed to this official 2.2 with sprecovery, no issues

If you're having issues after your first boot, do a battery pull.

if you get E:signtature verification failed its a bad download. Just download again. The servers are probably getting hammered right now

Someone should post the md5 for the file; so we can verify before copying. But none the less installing now.

    I hope this isn't a stupid question but ...

    Warning:
-Do not attempt to install this to anything other than the Motorola Droid.
-If you are running anything other than stock 2.1, you will receive an error.
-If you attempt to apply this update with a custom ROM installed, the update will NOT apply.

Does that mean that if I'm on 2.1-update 1 and I'm rooted I cannot use this?

As long as you do not have a custom ROM, go right ahead. 2.1-update1 is the code name for stock 2.1. :)
