Was just wondering if I can get gingerbread on a mytouch4g? Ive never updated a phone before so I have no idea how to go about it. Do I just download something to my pc and transfer it to the phone?

Every phone gets updates a little differently. The members with the same phone should be able to answer your question.

At this point if you want GB you need to root...otherwise wait until they push the update...who knows when that will be.....when they release it for the mt4g it will be over the air. You'll receive a notice saying an update is available.

    But don't hold your breath.

So you lose all the apps you've installed to this point when you update? Will you get the apps back that you have paid for for free?

Yes. All apps are associated with your Google acct not your phone.

I use AppBrain App Market to backup and sync all my apps. It's a good way to keep track of apps you have downloaded if you ever get a new phone or have to do a wipe.
