Help How to keep both MESSAGES and MESSENGER

I am tired of changing default settings to see both types of messages. What can I do?

Default by nature is one.

If one is SMS/MMS and the other is IM you shouldn't have to switch to get them both. If it is an IM client that also supports SMS (such as hangouts) you would have to switch your default to receive text messages in that app.

But your text messages should all come through to whichever app is set as your default for text messages. You can use any multitude of IM apps for instant messaging, however.
