After some hits and misses, I managed to get my Galaxy S connected to Kies and stay connected. It is shown as GT-I9000. Then under Firmware information, it says "Please update Samsung Kies to the latest version and then upgrade firmware. Current firmware version: PDA:JG4 / Phone:JG4 / CSC:JG4 (XSO)"

When I click Help Check updates in Kies, it says "Latest version installed. Installed version: 2.0.0.11014_49."

I am STUCK!! How do I get out of this ditch?

    Thanks.

What you could try is to download the latest version of Kies from Mobile Phone's Software&Manual SAMSUNG

Then un-install the version you have, and install the latest version you just downloaded.

Thanks. This method works. Wonder why my old Kies was reporting that it was the latest.

Glad it works. All we need now is for Samsung to start giving out Gingerbread:D.
From what I've read on other forums, Kies is a strange bit of software that likes to please itself, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
By the way, you should now be on version 2.0.0.11044_11.

    All the best.
