I have been trying to find out how to root this thing for a while. I have done it one time with unrevoked and it had an internal error: nand... and ever since, I found ways to root your Android, but for other phones. Does anyone know of a way to root this thing? I would really love the tether option. I did download 4Shared, until I saw it would work that way with a desire. Crap... Anyways, if anyone knows of an easy way to do this or even a link that I can finally root this thing will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Have a look in the root guide in my sig. It tells you how to check your hboot version. 1.06 is unrootable currently.

I just thought of this, could I root it with z4root? possibly the temp root?
Also, if I did, could I enjoy the benefits of the tethering? :)

hboot 1.06 is not rootable period. Some people have reported success with the temporary option with z4root, but I have not been able to get it to work. I think that certain peoples success has something to do with having rooted before upgrading to hboot 1.06, but I have been unable to confirm it.

The HTC Desire With Android 2.2 and hboot 1.06 is rootable with temporary root with out having rooted before the upgrade. z4root is the best tool for those of you who bought the HTC Desire preloaded with android 2.2 because it works flawlessly. If you cannot get it to work you are doing something wrong. I got my phone about 3 months ago and have been using the temporary root on z4root. I know it sucks that everytime you restart your phone that you have to reapply the root but it is the best to use until someone finds out how to root hboot 1.06

Visionary+ has much higher success rate than z4root. Most people have been unable to use z4root so its possible that these people are not doing something wrong and z4root's success is circumstantial.
