Oh I know, but as a rule, I stay away from leaks, which makes things easier for me.

And I assume since the hole unrevoked used on 2.1 is still there, they will have a 2.2 version soon.

I just wanted a very basic guide I could point folks to, instead of typing things over and over.

Try renaming it to PB31IMG.ZIP and see if it auto loads it in hboot.

It loaded and parsed, but did not apply and did not show any error messages.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I think the problem is wifi tether overwrote this .ko file and I need to restore it to stock before applying the OTA.

Yeah, this is the problem with trying to use the OTA, or do anything "official". It is expecting your phone to be in a specific state. I believe it will use diff's to patch certain things. Which means that when it hits a file that is not in the state expected, it can't continue.

Assuming the exploitation used in 2.1 hasn't been blocked in 2.2, you think that unrevoked will have a "simple root" some time soon?

Like we said in PM, as fun as it is to deal with command lines, I'd rather do it the easy way!

I successfully replaced clockwork recovery with stock and updated to 2.2 but can't get clockwork back. I am s-off. . . tried renaming it and letting it load in hboot but all I get is an error. I'm under the impression that if I can get clockwork back on I can regain SU and that would be nice.

When you go into hboot, does it say S-Off at the end of one of the lines in the header?

If so, you should be able to flash anything.

Can you give the output error?

And PS, I am heading out for the evening, but I will respond to questions tomorrow.

    Yes, I have a life. :D

(2.1 rooted trying to get to 2.2 OTA rooted)

Ok, so I renamed the OTA zip file to both update.zip and PB31IMG.ZIP and have tried to apply it during Hboot with no success. As PB31IMG.ZIP is does say parsing, etc but does not apply anything. As update.zip I get no where. I am not sure how to apply the update.zip from hboot. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

This is the part that confuses me. This file is the same file as the stock recovery image used to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1

If I install this update, won't my phone just be reverted back to 2.1?

Edit: Or is it just named the same? The file is smaller so I'm going to go ahead with this step.

Ok I made it to step 7 and tried installing it in recovery and I get

I did rename the file to update.zip

    Am I doing something wrong?

Edit: lmao..Ok..Went back into recovery and found out I could disable signature verification so now it worked.

Followed your directions and everything went smoothly.

The only thing I request you add to your tutorial is the part about installing the May OTA update. I could not install Froyo 2.2 until I had installed the may update.

And now I have successfully DELETED completely AmazonMP3, AppSharing, HTC Bookmark Widget, City ID, Footprints, Flickr, Peep, Voice Dialer, Visual Voice Mail, VZ Navigator, and the 3g Mobile Hotspot.

Thank you very much. It took me almost 3 hours but I did it. Thanks!!!

I have a life too, lol, so its okay as I amt just able to get back to you. Yes, it does say s-off. The error message says no image or wrong image. I'm certainly not on your level technically with Linux or Android but I have done enough with it to be comfortable with everything that is going on. I just don't know where to go from here. For what its worth the update upgraded my radio from 1.0 to 2.15. thanks for help!

Doesn't that recovery image perform the equivalent of a factory wipe?

EDIT: Sorry, I meant the first PB31IMG.zip, the Downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1-update1
