The audio for that godawful Virgin Mobile boot animation can be found at:

    /system/customize/resource/BoltAnimations.mp3

To silence it, either delete it (back it up elsewhere just in case) or change the file name to BoltAnimations.mp3.old so you can revert it later if desired.

Works great on rooted stock ROM.

Now if anyone knows how to kill the actual animation, please share! :D

Thanks guys! Wasn't sure if that was the VM or HTC animation.

When I try to rename these files, it says operation failed, using ES File Explorer. Should I use another method to do this? If I try to change the permissions on those files, that fails too. If I try to move them, it copies instead. If I try to delete them, it says they cannot be deleted.

In ES File Explorer go to Settings and tick the Root Explorer and Mount File System check boxes.

Thank you! Mount File System checkbox was the solution.

Ahh, silent boot with a clean, unobnoxious animation, music to my ears. I didn't think vm's boot animation could get worse, from previous phones. I was wrong, the evo's is worse. It's been such a great phone, that the boot animation could be considered one of the worst parts of it! I don't know what these guys are thinking when they put that junk on there. Glad it's gone.
