    Hi members,

I am new to android development and wish to learn the same. I have a very basic question to ask.

I would like to know what are the software tools and their versions required to start Android development?

    Android SDK - version ?
    Java JDK - version ?
    Eclipse - version ?
    Apache Ant - version ?

Am I missing anything from the above? If yes please let me know with their versions.

Also I have a mobile device that works on Android Gingerbread. Are there special instructions to check for compatibility before I start android development?

After a bit of reading, here is what I have setup-

    1. Installed JDK 7.
    2. Installed Eclipse-Luna.
    3. Installed Android SDK Tools and configured the SDK manager to install API 10 (GingerBread), along with the SDK tools, SDK platform tools, SDK build tools each of revisions 21 and the Android support Library
    4. Installed ADT for Eclipse.
    5. Created an Emulator for Google API 10 on the AVD

This is what I have done till now. Let me know if I need anything more before I start.

If you use an Intel CPU you could also try to install HAXM for a much faster emulator.

Did you also install the Google Play Services SDK under Extras in the SDK manager? You might probably need those at some point.

it appears by your second post you did everything your supposed to just start programming, but you should get all of the packages installed via the sdk manager

@Manaya - I will install the HAXM as I have a Intel Core2Duo processor. Thanks a lot! Yes, I have already installed the Google Play Services SDK under Extras.

@vizray - When you say all the packages, do you mean all the API's (right from API3 to API21) and the subsets within them apart from the Gingerbread API 10?
