In the Settings for your email app there will be the facility to enable/disable notifications.

What you're seeing is called Notifications. I find them very useful and would never consider turning them off. If you simply want to clear them from the pulldown there are two ways. One is to press the "clear" button on the notification bar. The other is to flick the notification towards the side of the phone with your finger. If you want to permanently stop seeing notifications? These types of notifications are commonly controlled from within the app making the notification as opposed to the main system settings. I have to assume you're using the default Samsung supplied email app (a fairly safe assumption).

    From your home screen.
-Press Applications, then email (you may have to scroll a page or so to find it)
-then menu (leftmost facing of the 3 lit buttons below the screen, looks like a tiny sheet of paper).
-You should see "general preferences and below that a list of "added accounts" (may be only one).
-Click on the account you want to stop notifications (probably titled Gmail with your email address below it).
-Scroll down a little and you should see "Email Notifications" with a checked checkbox next to it
-Press the check box to uncheck and that accounts notifications will be turned off.

Use the back key or home key to get out of settings, and you're done.

    Hope this helps!
