Help How to stop Samsung J7 continuous notification alerts

I have a Samsung J7. When I receive a message and I don't open it, the notification alerts doesn't want to stop until I open the message. How can I stop this and only let the alert go off once when receiving the message?

Are you talking about the stock text messaging app notification? If so you should be able to turn it off. Open the messaging app then tap the menu, on my S5 it is three vertical dots in upper right corner. Choose settings, scroll down to Notifications and tap on it. Find Repeat message alert and select never.
May be different on the J7, haven't seen one
