how to unpack edit and repack system.img [Root only]

    i want to edit system.img and repack it but its not working i have extracted it in windows but cygwin is not up for this task so im using ubuntu in vmware but the simg2img is not executing says "no such file or directory" i have tried all i can i want a way to unpack edit and repack it please help :stupido3::stupido2:

    the tool you are using is for sparse images.
    do you know what type of image you are trying to unpack.

    try the mount command in adb to veiw what partitions are mounted and what type thay are.

    Im pretty sure .dat is a sparse image.

    .img could be ext4 or ext3 or yaffs or yaffs2 filesystem.

    each image type needs specific binary tools for unpacking / mounting.
