Using the Music app I selected to use a song as a ringtone. I no longer want to use it as a ringtone. How do I find the ringtone (if a new file was actually created) and remove it from the ringtone list?

I would also like to know how to remove it. Because I'm rooted I checked in /system/media/audio/ringtones where the stock ringtones are kept but I didn't find two songs I tagged as ringtones. Which likely means that no new files are created, or at least not in that location.

Correct they're there but no new files are created in the stock ringtones folder.
