Help How to update samsung galaxy s 19000 android 2.1 to 2.2

Hi,

I recently brought the samsung galaxy s 19000 with android 2.1.
Iwould like to update my android 2.1 to 2.2.

Can you please let us know the steps for this process.

There is a very good chance it may not even be out for your country at least it isn't for those of us in the states. But to answer your question you would use the samsung kies program from the samsung site. Go to SAMSUNG click support then enter your model number, somewhere after that download links for your model will be showed.

First did you try with KIES? If KIES shows no update then it has not been released in your country.
You can try Login - www.SamFirmware.com to see if there is a version available to update using ODIN. But we aware that there is a risk with ODIN and make sure you follow the steps on the site carefully.

I also still have 2.1 and would like to upgrade to 2.2. I actually heard that 2.2.1 is even better (no lag). Do I need to upgrade to 2.2 first or can I go directly to 2.2.1? And when I upgrade, would I lose any apps? What about the Folder Organiser icons I have on my home screen? I would certainly not want to lose those and have to set then up again.

You can go from 2.1 to 2.2.1 directly.

Unfortunately either way you lose everything. And even if you didn't, you really should still perform a factory reset after the update to wipe all traces of the previous firmware off your phone.

If you update to 2.2 or 2.2.1 you should NOT use any old data.
If you use titanuim backup make sure it the latest.
Also when you do restore after you come to the new froyo you CAN

I don't really understand. So if I upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2.1, will I lose my apps/data or not? It's hard to believe that all the data will be lost!

And what is the safest way to do the upgrade? Can I just take it to a Samsung service center and get it done? Or do I have to use Kies (which I hear is a total pain)...

You do a backup on your apps.
All personal stuff you also put on a safe place.
But you can't use any system data.
Your phone need to be cleaned out.
So a factory reset and a format on the internal sdcard is a must. So all your backup must be on your PC or end external sdcard.

If you don't do it this way your phone will be strange.
