I just tried getting the unlock code from HTC Dev, followed the token identifier directions, I submitted the sequence of code and I received this message from HTC:

We're sorry, but it appears your attempt to unlock the bootloader on this device has failed. This could be caused by several factors including simple errors in the entry of the unlock token, problems with your device, or a lack of manufacturer support for the unlocking process. Please see the specific error code listed below, and try again if necessary.

Error Code: Invalid Bootloader Token Length.
Error Reason: The submitted Token appears to be the wrong length and won't work.

I need to get rid of the Crap "Boost Zone" and other useless apps. This morning the Boost Zone updated itself for the 4th time, deleted my wallpaper, Icons, screens, etc..... SICK OF THIS.
Auto Updates is NOT set on my phone, Boost Zone apparantly does whatever the hell it wants

@Sashman I totally agree I have the same problems with this phone. Boost Zone has never been a huge issue for me but with this phone for some reason it just annoys me. When you figure out how to fully root this and get rid of the stupid boot zone PM me and let me know how you did it please.
  7. Sounds like you copied and pasted the code incorrectly and or chose the wrong device. I chose all other supported devices.

I need to root my HTC Desire on Boost ASAP so that I can get rid of all the bloatware.

Particularly BoostZone, which just updated itself and reset all my screens.

Is it possible to root while still leaving all of my data and apps intact? Will Wi-Fi tethering still work?

Unlocking the bootloader will factory reset your phone. Wi-Fi tethering should still work, especially if you pay for it. I use USB/Bluetooth through PDANet. I've done build.prop tweaks to get built-in WiFi tethering to work and it doesn't, but I don't pay for it.

I don't think the factory reset is good for us, maybe you need to find a good solution of root htc device ,
