Help HTC Desire Not Making or Receiving Calls/Texts

Hello! Recently I've been having some trouble with my HTC Desire 816. I am running on firmware 5.0.2 and my phone is not rooted.

My phone will seemingly randomly stop making as well as receiving calls and text messages. People who have tried to call me have told me that it has gone straight to voicemail as if my phone were turned off, and I never receive any indication that someone has tried to call me. The problem stops when I restart my phone. Before it has only happened a few times a week, but now it's happening several times a day and it is becoming a very large inconvenience to me. I would also like to avoid a factory reset if possible.

Do you have any visible indicator that it has lost connection to the network? Does it happen in particular locations?

This could be a network problem or a SIM card starting to fail (or not making good contact) rather than a problem with the phone itself.

No, everything else seems perfectly normal when this happens. It doesn't happen in any particular locations either. It's nearly a brand new phone, a little over a month old.
