I am considering buying an unlocked international HTC Desire from Amazon.

I plan to use my AT&T sim card, here in California.

Here are the specs of the device as listed on Amazon.

Quad-Band Unlocked GSM cell phone compatible with 850/900/1800/1900 GSM and 900/2100 3G frequencies plus GPRS/EDGE capabilities

Does anyone know if this device will be able to access the AT&T 3G network here in the United States?

    Thank you.

    On gsm & edge certainly.

You'll need to check that BOTH 3g frequencies match at&t. From memory, I don't thing that will work with at&t's frequencies

Yep, GSM/EDGE will work so you can talk and have 2G data. AT&T works on 1900 and 850 for 3G so you won't be able to get 3G with that version.

If you want the 3G then one option is to see if you can get one from Canada. Telus uses the same 1900/850 3G frequencies and they just got the Desire. If you can get it unlocked you should be good to go.
