i used revolitionary to root my htc droid, 2 days later my phone shuts down after i turn it on and trys to install an update and fails every time. idk what to do besides smash it
I woke up to my phone doing the exact same thing. It will force itself to power off, then during the reboot it will show the 'unloading box' graphic, then at 33% or so it will lock up with an '!' error screen. Taking the battery out and restarting will only continue the cycle. I am going to try and re-install my backup ROM to see if that fixes anything
Let me preface this by saying: I've had my Dinc2 for less than 48 hours, long time user of a DX. Mine did the same thing the other night with that 4.2mb update. "Fresh off of its Gingerbread update, the DROID Incredible 2 already has another on the way. This time it looks like it’s just a minor “server connection” fix (only 4.2MB) that has to do with email and contacts, but no matter what, we’re happy to see HTC and Verizon acting quickly." (droid life) It didn't really sound important to me anyhow. I fixed it by just clearing data/cache from recovery. When it finally reboots, start the OTA again, but cancel it and decline the update, it hasn't bothered me about it again.
guys, number one, once rooted, you can't install OTA updates unless you un-root and get the stock recovery on your phone.. once rooted it has the clockworkmod recovery.. this stops the OTA from installing.. number two there is a ROM that is exactly the same as the OTA that you are trying to install but it has root and is de-bloated. that'st the point of root, to install ROMs, but this one keeps it stock for you if u need everything working as stock. [ROM] RMK Ginger Sense r1: *Official* 3.02.605.1 (Rooted/Deodexed/Debloat) [7/30/11] - xda-developers install this ROM and make sure to install the firmeware patch as well.
I rooted for CM7 anyhow, which is where I am now =] I guess I've been on non-stock roms for so long I forgot that stock roms will prompt you but you cannot take the ota's. But the data wipe cleared it up for sure.
AndyBones, thank you for the link. Follow up question, is there a way to disable OTA updates? my phone keeps asking me to update every 5 days and if I miss the 5min window to say don't update I get stuck with a forced update.
