Further confirmation on the lack of a hot swapable SD Card.

You can see that it's impossible to plop it up like on the EVO 4G because part of it is under the camera bezel.

    :(:(:(

So - I was looking that over. The PM8085 does indeed have a kinda support for NFC - but this chip is the PMM8160 equivalent/update to the PM8085.

In both cases, PM = power management.

On page 27, pin T3, aka NFC_EXT_EN (presuming NFC external enable there) - is not shown wired to anything.

I think we'll need to get NFC same as any other aftermarket solution for other phones, whatever that may be.:thinking:

All it looks like you have to do is remove the battery, which is still a pain

Does anyone have info on the FPS we can expect while recording 720P and 1080P 2D videos? What about the audio quality, bitrate and htz? One thing that Sammy has always impressed me with is their video AND audio quality. The SG2 samples on youtube look amazing.

The Sensation clips look like a mixed bag. But I'm wondering if the cams in the Evo are different and are hopefully better. Audio from HTC's cams has always sounded like a mono tape recorder.

Just wanted to drop back in and say the talk of the MSM8660 not being able to do 1x advance I said before is looking like I was completely wrong. Dunno how I missed/mixed this up but I've been corrected and it evidently does support it.
    1XAdvanced Web 02092011 NA EXT
    Go to page 11...

we will still NOT see voice+data over cdma bc the MDM chip is only one that does SVDO right now but 1x advanced is a step in the right direction still!

sorry for the missinformation before though.

Someone needs to make the specs link at the left margin (from the E3D forum) come to this thread. If you click specs there, you see a bunch of ? marks.

And rename it to "Evo 3D for TECHIES"

Way too much technical detail for dummies :p

Yeah, there's some wrong information, and a lot of missing information. Maybe a mod could update it?

Ah - that's the auto-generated banner for the Phandroid wrap-up. Not sure how/when they decide to update that info, but I'll check with Admin and see what can be done about it.

    Good catch!

As to the thread title, it's Vanquishes call. Maybe you could talk with him here or via PM on best choices. I'd vote for something like Complete Spec Info but also like Dummies, but that's just me.

Here or in that Phandroid link? Phandroid link, right?

Phandroid Actual already recognized this as the go-to thread for info, now we just need to see where admin and site dev are in the updating process.

    Promise we're on it now.

How does this compare to Iphone 4? Believe it or not, this weekend was the very first time I held an Iphone 4 (my sister has one), and I was very impressed with its retina display. But the screen size is just way too small. I have my EVO 4G now, and soon will buy the EVO 3D, but I was looking at the iphone 4 screen spec and I dont see that much difference, unless I am mistaken.

This is what wikipedia has on the Iphone 4 screen:

3.5-inch (89 mm) diagonal 1.5:1 aspect ratio widescreen
LED backlit IPS TFT LCD Retina display

Wish I knew if the Sensation used the Sharp panel or not. Sharp's entry into markets outside of Japan is exciting for me. They've produced a retinal-density display (same size and resolution specs as the iP4) on a Japan-only Android phone for nearly a year.

When you have fairly high resolution on a smaller display, that display will always appear brighter and more vibrant, something well-known to TV enthusiasts for some time. The Shift with its smaller screen seems much brighter and more vibrant than my Evo and I've no doubt that's size more than anything.

I'm hoping the Sharp display, with its different approach to LCD tech, will yield truer colors than what we've seen to date. Proof will only be in the pudding tho.

Unless and until we get a set of decent contrast and color adjustments, I'll still maintain that any claims of superiority by tech type or model are specific to model-to-model comparisons. I've yet to see a model-to-reference_HDTV comparison where the color is correct.

And I've yet to see a reviewer evaluate a color phone display for its color accuracy. All reviews I've seen use subjective measures.

Unbiased or non-subjective comparative reviews of the newer LCD & OLED technologies in these smartphones are pretty much impossible to find. It seems all the head-to-heads have a clear bias towards one display over another. This may be because display is a largely preferential decision when choosing which one fits your needs best.

It seems there is also a lot of brand hype and people want to preach "their" brand as the "superior" one. When in reality it's less like comparing apples to oranges and more like choosing a red apple or a green apple.

These are nothing new, and I'm pretty sure you've seen them before EarlyMon -- I'm referring to Raymond Soniera's testing of mobile displays. Though the technical discussion of the hardware is somewhat lacking, the amount of objective testing of the actual displays is impressive.

(forehead slap) Jeez, I've written so much on Soniera's work in the past (before I was a member here) I don't know how I forgot about him - but I did. (Some days after viewing dozens and dozens of device forums I'm happy to remember how to dial my phone! :p :D :D)

Will check back on that, many thanks for the link! (edit - Yes. I remember that, I think you and I even discussed that before. (Sorry, it runs together some days....) I had 100% and totally forgotten about this table. Would love for him to update and test just the phones I'd be caring about (i.e., the 3 in this list) today.)

As for the word bias - not attacking or defending anyone here - just my 2 cents: I tend to use the word bias freely because in test engineering, it's our number one enemy and our first defense against it is to admit we all have it. So that's just me. Is that the superior position? Correct answers are yes, no and maybe and my real point is just to rant that on the internet we can't hear each other's tone of face - so maybe we use a word the same way, maybe we don't.

When we do use a word the same way, still ok to disagree. In other news, water is still wet, news at 11. :) :) ;)

Yeah I realize my opinion on the matter is somewhat unique, so I'm not complaining or attacking, just merely shooting the breeze until the Evo 3D drops into my hands ;)

No worries compadre, we know each other from the earliest camera/HDMI posts you contributed on the Evo evil so I knew where you were coming from. ;)

Ugh...it is my bias that the screen comparison website has won the "Worst Overall Background" award. The graph paper lined background mucked with my eyes more than novox's 3D flowers.

Just a quick note - and this is nothing bad - but I found a secret message in that background.

It said - Prepare to move posts to miscellany thread....

Just a heads up. If we move anything that you think is better suited here, we're not perfect and the door's always open, here or via PM.

Carry on unless/until moves, will announce when at that point. ;)

Hello, anyone knows if the Evo3D has Ant+ connectivity as the EVO 4G has? Does it has WiLink 7? And btw, did anyone manage to make the Ant+ connection in the Evo 4G work? Thank you!

I thought it could record 2d 1080p, and I also thought it has Bluetooth 3.0.
