For about the last 6 years or so I have had some kind of smart phone. I have had Blackberries and Palms. I thought I would give Android a try. There are some things about the OS that are nice, but there are some things that are way to hard to do or things you can't do at all. For example:

By the way I am using a HTC Evo with Android 2.1

    1. Why can't you simply save an email message with a POP account? You can move it to another folder but can't simply create a new folder called saved.
    2. The default news reader is nice, but why can't you select all to delete? Deleting one by one is insane.
    3. When taking a picture, why can't I move that pictures to a new folder, instead of leaving it in the camera folder?
    4. Why is there no actual spell check and not predictive typing? It really slows me down to have to always double check what the system is changing my words to, example Yoda becomes soda. If you turn it off, you get nothing.
    5. Why is there no backup feature?
    6. There needs to be better control of apps on your phone. I have set stocks and a few others to not update automatically but they do it anyway.
    7. There needs to be some way to disable or at least hide icons you don't use. There is already enough apps I have to scroll through without seeing Nascar and others I don't use nor want.
    8. Battery life has to be improved. I mobile device I have to always keep plugged in is useless. That might be hardware but also might be the apps trying to update, I set to don't update.
    9. It would be nice to have a light for my HD camcorder, doesn't work all that well in low light.
    10. No music over mono bluetooth option? You can start a phone call then click music and play it over your headset until you hang up. So it works so why don't I have that option all the time? Would be perfect for pod cast.
    11. You can't change the default greeting on the locked screen. All other phones you can. All it says is Sprint, so if you lose your phone your out of luck if you have a locked pattern.

**And the biggest problem, no bluetooth voice dial???? Every phone I have had would do this, even the cheap ones I got for free. It is against the law in a lot of states to use the phone while driving, yet this phone does not support that feature????

I know some might say that there might be an app for some of these things or that you can attach the phone to your PC to do some of them, but really these should be included by default. My older smart phones could do them, so shouldn't a "new" one be able to. So far I'm not too impressed with this phone but I don't know where the fault lies. With Sprint, HTC, or Android????

Some valid points. I don't have an EVO yet, but I'm seeing a lot of complaints about various topics, and it's kind of scaring me away.

Sounds like maybe you didn't do enough research on Android before you bought the phone.

Android and the Evo aren't for everyone.

About #7 you do know you can remove an app by just holding and dragging to remove.

ETA: nevermind you want to completely remove it.

I think he meant that you can't remove apps from the "all apps" menu... which, well, is sort of obvious anyway from the name.

But that's the whole point of having 7 screens you can customize. You can choose what you put on there... and then you'll never even HAVE to open the "all apps" menu and scroll through everything. You can have everything you need on your home page... and nothing else.

Huh? I've set up and used bluetooth voice dial in my car (Acura). Read the manual. If it's not working, maybe it's your car?

Seems like there are answers to a lot of your complaints. There is a bit of a learning curve here.

Most everything you listed has a solution to it. Even customizing the lock screen and removing sprint bloatware. You just need to do the research to find the answer. As for customizing the lock screen and removing the bloatware, that requires root access--don't take that step lightly and think that anybody can root, it's not for everybody.

I'm talking about using my bluetooth headset. All the other phones I have had would let you click the headset and it would ask who you want to call and you say the contact and it calls. Does not work with this phone.

The Droid are not so mutch a Smart Phone as they are a Smart user Phone. If you want everything set up for you as a default, then stick with the phones that have limited abilities. But if you want a phone with all of the abilities these have than there is not way to set defaults that work for everyone. So it takes some effort to get what you want, but there is so much that that you can do, it is worth it.

So far I have customized the phone a lot. I like open source and have no problem settings things up how I want. However, all the problems I listed I have not found a solution, that is my complaint. And you are totally missing the point, something simple like putting your name on the screen and not Sprint or simply moving a picture SHOULD be included by default.

#'s 1-11 can all be answered by using the search option instead of the new thread option, do your homework first.

That's a helpful post thanks. And I have talked to HTC and was told there is no way to do several of the things.

When you type Yoda tap it when it is in the word list, the phone will save it in auto correct.
