I've had the gel cover since launch day and I've been noticing that the phone is getting awfully hot. Yesterday I set my phone up for some gps driving directions and the phone gave me overheating warnings after a bit. I tried the same thing after I took the cover off and everything was fine.

So be careful with at least the gel cover, it can cause overheating

My wife uses the gel from the Sprint store and she confirmed it does gets hot when listening to Pandora. She has never experienced an overheating warning though.

I used the split multi-color case and mine gets warm once in a while, but not hot.

I noticed this when I was charging using the included charger yesterday. Touched the kickstand and YOWZA!

I actually take my silicone case off when tethering for this reason.

I'm only using hard,slide-on covers with my Evo if I'm using a case at all. The gel ones don't lift it enough to keep it off the camera lens. The hard ones do just that, which is all I want.
