Just received a twitter update saying, HTC Hero EU will receive Eclair directly skipping Donut.... Hmm that is interesting... But any dates ????
No, they've not announced any dates yet. Actually, they've not officially confirmed that this is what they're planning on doing yet either. Hopefully they'll give us something more concrete over the next few days.
This is real interesting news. I have a friend that works for Sprint here in California. I will ask around. As most know, Sprint does its own tweaks to put its own spin on Android. This could delay things for we Sprint-ites with Heros. Please post any news or rumors Cheers!!!
Heh, yep, I saw that too but it's not really an official announcement. It wouldn't be the first time a customer services department has been spouting misinformation. To be fair to HTC though, their customer services have been great in my experience. The idea to skip 1.6 makes sense. No point messing with upgrading an earlier version to have to upgrade again later.
I agree with the idea of skipping 1.6 Being on T-Mobile I've only just updated to the latest 1.5 ROM. I'll be updating my phone every month at this rate!!
If this is true then it's fantastic news - i'm sure that like many other companies there is a limited (though hopefully still quite large) 'support budget' for the hero. Good to see work concentrated on providing a major update rather than a point release that doesnt really deliver much improvement from a user point of view. I mean, yeah we'll have to wait a while longer for the new marketplace, but with websites like androlib out there, who really needs it?
I agree, there is little in 1.6 to excite me, especially if 2.0 is arriving within a couple of months.
Personally I'd like 1.6...just to keep me entertained till 2.0, even if it is out in a few weeks. Droid is supposed to come with 2.0, which is released November 6th. Hope it's not long after.
