So both my wife and I had HTC Droid Incredibles along with insurance for each. My wife broke her Incredible and called the insurance to get a replacement phone. We had to pay $100 for the replacement because she was at fault, but to our surprise a Droid Incredible 2 was in the box. I have recently confiscated it from her, we switched numbers, and I absolutely love this phone.

Just thought I would tell y'all a cool little story.

I think it is mentioned in the Bible that a husband is "allowed to taketh all possessions that the wife haveth and deemeth necessary." This definitely falls into that category!

    Good story!

The reason the Incredible 2 was in the box is because the Incredible 1 is no longer available, either on Verizon's site or through Asurion for relpacement. If anyone needs an Asurion replacement for their Incredible 1 they will be upgraded to the Incredible 2 or possibly another 3G smartphone in stock. They announced this around May or June. For awhile they were replacing an Inc1 with a Droid X. Congrats.

A gentleman would have let his lady have the DINC2. And gotten his own DINC2 ASAP. I'm just sayin'...

What are the odds of me getting a Dinc 2 as a replacement for a warranty claim filed this week?

I was at a Verizon store over the weekend and told the lady of an issue I was having with the Dinc. She went to her terminal, did some quick typing to file a warranty claim, and told me I would receive a replacement handset by Friday. I was fine with it - it did not occur to me until I saw this thread that they might be out of stock and send me the Dinc 2 as a replacement. I would be fine with that. However, I am not sure if my replacement is likely to be a refurbished unit or a new unit, and whether that will affect availability (e.g. maybe they don't have new Dinc 1s but maybe they still have some refurb ones for warranty claims).

    Anyone know?

Don't take the Incredible 2. What made me regret getting it is the reception is just dismal. I've compared it side-by-side-by-side-by-side with my old Blackberrys, Droid X, and an iPhone 4 all on VZW.... and The Inc 2 has a dramatically lower signal representation and performance.

In areas where the BB or X would have 1 or 2 bars and 3G, the Inc 2 has a beautiful, crisp white x over the signal meter.... In areas where the Inc 2 has 1 or 2 bars and 1X, the others have 4-5 bars and full 3G.

And I'm not just limiting myself to "bars" as representation. The highest dB i've seen on the Inc 2 is -80, and that was ~1000 feet from the tower. Here's a pic of how close I was.

I bought my Inc 2 brand new. I got a refurb from Vzw. Neither one of them knows what the CDMA spectrum looks like.

After speaking to Verizon, it seems that they still have refurb Incredible 1s. When I spoke with the insurance company, they said that the only reason that I got the Incredible 2 was that they were out of stock on the Incredible 1 at the moment that I had to return my dInc1 (I tried to get the dInc2 for my wife as well) but they had more in stock.

Your best bet would be to just call them and see if they have the dInc1 in stock every so often and when they don't try to send yours in as "broken"

Edit: As far as the signal goes, I'm getting about the same reception as my wife's Incredible 1 and whenever I'm at a place where there is WiFi, (about 75% of the time) I'm connected to it. So the reception thing doesn't really matter for me. Have you tried *228 option 2? And if that doesn't work you should call Verizon and see what's up with that reception, that just doesn't seem normal....

It depends. Verizon uses two companies, Asurion and New Breed for warranty claims. I know for a fact that Asurion has zero INC1s in the system. So, if it comes through there, it's a good chance that you will get an INC2, but it will be remanufactured. 9 times out of 10, the only way you get a new phone is if it's brand new and no one can get parts to rebuild or the phone is on backorder. I'm sure China has the parts. Third party companies usually buy the dyes and/or schematics to make parts soon after a product is released. If the phone comes through New Breed, it's definitely remanufactured because they specialize in like new replacements. I'd say you have about a 25% shot in getting a brand new INC2. Good luck!

It just talks to towers nearby and updates your PRL, which is the preferred roaming list.

Rats, they sent a certified refurb of the original. I'm debating whether to send it back and keep my rooted one (took alot of time to get it set up) or sell the refurb along with the 1750 and 3500 mAh batteries and cases to put towards a Dinc2.

Complain that it doesn't work. Maybe you will get an INC2.

ive got the inc 2 due to an insurance claim cause i dunked my inc1 in the crapper when i was grabbing a call in the shower lol.

also assurion is very very careful about ins fraud. they track phones too, my org they said they never got but during the call she said wait a min ill see if it has been activated, and she said it wasn't activated again. just thought id put that tid bit out there. i paid 50 for my claim. they said on the site when i finished it they only had inc 2s. also id watch if ur on the same acct as ur wife filing a claim too cause that may put up red flags.

oh and right after all that bs with assurion and dropping my phone in the crapper, i look on my acct and vzw gave me an early upgarde. lol so im saving it up.

Nah, we ended up selling my replacement Incredible 1 on ebay and bought an Incredible 2 with the money from someone who was switching over to sprint. We now both have an Incredible 2 and are due for an upgrade in a year. Lucked out big time!

That is friggin sad.. My LG Vortex had a much stronger signal but the HTC appears to need a transceiver adjustment..

Is it even possible for a firmware upgrade that will adjust the receiver sensitivity to make it more sensative ? It seems to me that should be doable but admittedly, I am no expert..

I wonder if HTC is even aware of all the complaints on this subject.. I mean are they even looking into this?

    Thoughts anyone?

with the insurance thing, you need to call them daily to find out what they have in stock as replacement devices. I called 5 days in a row till the finally said it would be an inc2, then I filed the claim and got a brand new inc 2 for my original inc.

For the reception, hopefully the prl update will help, you should do that about once a month if you travel, just to be sure you got all the newer towers.

The PRL update only helps if you are roaming.. His issue was non roaming signal reception.. he compared various other phones all on verizon and there is a significant reduction in signal reception with the INC2.

I know for a fact that my LG had better reception at my house than my INC2 does now.. I had a motorola before andthe LG again had better reception..

Had I known about the HTC Reception problems, I would have stuck with a LG phone..

I hope HTC knows about this issue and they are working on a fix.. again I don't see why a firmware update can't fix this..

Well we just got root for the OTA GB update, so maybe a new kernel/radio will do the trick? I'm not sure, I haven't noticed anything major with the reception thing honestly. I live in SW michigan and drive through chicago all the time and into wisconsin and haven't really had any issues regarding reception.

I had a Dinc1. I just bought a new Dinc2 and gave my Dinc1 to my wife. These phones are pretty much the same on reception. The Dinc1 was never very good and the Dinc2 is the same.

I really like this Dinc2. The bigger screen is nice, and it is a good bit faster than the Dinc1. The only thing I miss is the optical mouse.
