I'm having issues getting HTC Sync to install and run on my PC (running XP Pro).

I try to install (second time) and at the end of my installation, I get a notification box that contains nothing but a yellow triangle with the exclamation point on it, no text.

HTC Sync shows up as a program. If I try to run it, nothing happens but the same dialog box.

In addition, the phone gives me an error that says it cannot connect to HTC Sync.

I have downloaded the latest version from the HTC website (2.0.8). I have turned off my firewall / virus protection prior to starting. Any ideas?

I too am running XP pro and have had no issues. My wife running Vista has had no luck with the installation. Try installing after booting. Close all running programs including firewall and ant-virus. We know it works with XP. You might have a conflict with a running program. Good luck.

No programs were running, except background programs.

Disabled windows firewall and McAfee as well.

Disabled everything, turned off all running programs and tried to re-install.

No luck.

It does say at the end "installed successfully". But then, I get the "blank error" and nothing happens.

I also have vista, and can't get HTC sync to work, it seems to download, but my computer wont recognize my phone, and I get the error message on my phone as well. I sprint bubba told me that syncing with your computer is the only way to update your phone...is this true?

I have XP, not Vista.

And no, the update will get pushed to your phone.

Are you running XP 64 bit? I have XP Pro on an old lap top running the 32 bit version and I haven't had any issues. The 64bit version should run that program no problem though. There is a browser based 3rd party program, it may do what you want, it's called Dazzboard. Try Google'ing that and download it, I;ve used that and it seems to work well.

I have Win Xp Pro (x32), and have HTC Sync, as well as the Android developer kit running on it just fine. Everything seems to be running OK (I have Xp fully patched w/ Windows Update).

It seems to me that over the course of doing all this, I've seen at least three USB device drivers installed for different purposes as a result of the phone being connected - one for Mass Storage (SD Card), one for ADB (Dev Kit Debugger), and one for HTC Sync.

If I remember correctly, I vaguely remember getting a standalone USB driver from HTC (before they had the v2.0.8 HTC Sync download available on their website).

If it is of any help to you, I note that there is always an HTC Sync icon in the System Tray (looks like a grey box with two white arrows in a circle if nothing is connected), whether or not I have the phone plugged in via USB - and the Sync app will launch from that - again, independent of whether the phone is on the USB cable.

In the FAQ section of the HTC website (DROID Eris support), I found this:

HTC Sync allows synchronization between a Phone and PC. The USB debugging check box in Home > Menu > Settings > Applications > Development needs to be selected for the phone to be able to synchronize with the PC using HTC Sync. You can find the latest version of HTC Sync and drivers from Support section of our website.

Maybe try turning that option on and connecting the phone to see if you get an additional USB driver installed?

I know this is of little help to you (not very prescriptive), but at least it is a data point that it does work on Xp.

BTW, installing all this crud seemed to put a lot of new (reboot-) persistent server processes in place on my machine:

Generic.exe (Teleca AB)
ClientInitiatedStarter.exe (Teleca)
logger.exe (Popwire AB)
CapabilityManager.exe (Teleca Sweden AB)
epmworker.exe (Teleca AB)
dbgout.exe (Teleca Sweden AB)
HTCVBTServer.exe (Teleca AB)
FsynSrvStarter.exe (Teleca AB)
Application Launcher.exe (Teleca Sweden AB)

Probably you should see some of these running if your install went through correctly.

I have the same problem. I called HTC (after a couple really irritatingly unhelpful anwers from the web-based support). HTC sync and the new ROM do not run on Windows XP Service package 3, nor on Windows 7. They are "working on it"

Got the new update this morning. Just ran sync on my computer with XP Pro and SP3, no problems. Those that are having problems, there must be some conflict with programs on those machines.

Can't do much to help you out with the program. However, if you're just looking to transfer files from your computer and phone, I have to echo ErisDroid?'s suggestion of using Dazzboard. It's a web-based client that transfers files between your devices.

+1

Same deal here - got OTA last night, have Xp SP3, HTC Sync works

I did have trouble with HTC sync finding the phone, even though all the other USB functions seemed to be working - but it had been a long time since I rebooted my laptop (Xp SP3 machine), and rebooting the laptop cleared that problem up.

I had the same problem with not even connecting. I had McAfee installed and did not follow the instructions about disabling it.

So

  1. I uninstalled htc synch manager
  2. I then prevented the McAfee suite from starting up by disabling the start up
  3. Rebooted w/o a the AV stuff turned on (scary)
  4. Insalled HTC syn
  5. turn on the AV suite by e-enabling them to start on system startup
  6. rebooted.
Sync works perfect now

:D

i have had the same issue. So this is how far i got go into c/programs/htc/htc sync/ mobile phone monitor and delete empworker.exe then everything should be fine except for the part where my phone doesn't connect. lol but everything is installed properly
