Hey guys, just wondering how you update your phones android o.s version ( for example, from 1.6 to 2.2 )?

If someone could tell me that would be great, I'm running 2.2 on my huawei U8300 and I think it's the current version but I just wanna know for when a new update comes out, how to update my phone to the new version?

Thanks.

Updates are generally pushed. If you're asking about non-stock ROM's and such then you need to refer to the rooting subforum for your device. You don't just download updates from Google. The source for each update is made available but that source has to be adapted for each device.

Wow, seems pretty technical, what do you mean by pushed? Sorry I'm a bit of a noon when it comes to android as I've only had mine for a little while. Also, what's rooting? Is I needed and what does it do?

Thanks.

How the update is done depends on whether your phone is rooted or not, and who your carrier is. For me, with US Cellular, there are no "pushed" updates. You either take your phone to a corporate store and have the tech person do the update, or you download the update to your computer (pc) and via your USB cable do the update

Ok, so where to you go to get the update to put onto your computer?

And how do you install it from the computer to your phone using USB?
