After a lot of phone calls, and pleading, I spoke to someone at HTC and they helped me.

I got the latest RUU for my phone - all 173 Meg of it - and downloaded that to work's computer and brought the file home.

Thing is I am still not sure what happens now.

See, my "internet" is via that phone.

So, what I understand is the next step is I turn off the phone, hold the button, turn it on, select boot load - or what ever it is called - and then plug the phone it and run the RUU program.

But is that 173 Meg everything I need? I would hate it to be halfway through and have it say "I want internet connection to continue."

    Anxiously waiting for help.

You don't do all that with an RUU, just custom ROMs etc.

With the RUU you save it onto your computer, plug the phone in via USB, and double click the exe file (the RUU). It then runs the update from the computer onto the phone.

So you still haven't really said if I need an internet connection to "complete" the upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2

If I am running the RUU then it is the Rom being updated. (or the "OS".) So isn't that all that is needed?

Sorry. No you don't need an internet connection.

    Meh,

Thanks. I am sure you can understand the trepidation of not wanting to start something I can't complete.

I'll back up my contacts and apps, then get it going.

No worries, I was the same when I did it and I had a web connection to fall back on for help if needed!

    It worked.

But I was an idiot and forgot the name of the app I used to backup the apps to the SD card.

Its icon is either a red or green tirangle and it starts with an A I think.

Until I get it's name, I am stuck at getting the apps back.

Any ideas on the name? I know... I should have written it down.

I shall search my other posts and see if the name is there.

I've never bothered to backup my apps. Most people seem to use Titanium. Maybe search for that in the market and see the related apps it suggests?
