Update and have been prompted to update every time I turn my phone on.

So how do you like your JB update and what are the pros and cons? I know if I accept it, it would probably be almost impossible to go back to ICS.

    Thanks for your opinions. :)

what phone do you have? every android os update will be different depending on the phone. each manufacturer always adds there skins on top of the android os so it will be different for different phones.

if you want i can move this thread to your phone's forum, where folks who have your phone can chime in and let you know how the latest OTA is.

ok so i moved you to the droid bionic forum where folks who have the phone can tell you more about the JB OTA and how well it performers on the phone.

with motorolla you will get motoblur. i never owned a motorolla phone so i can't say how good it is vs other manufacturer's skins. i have a htc evo 4g LTE and it has htc sense which is ok...not really my favorite so far.

    Hello,

I received the Jelly Bean update into my phone 4 days ago. It was downloaded, but did not install since.
I did several resets, battery pulls etc, but no installation as yet.
    Any thoughts?

    thanks.

    :)

Are you getting any error messages? You can go to settings about phone and check for updates to try and push the install.

Well ... here's something that will seem odd to you ...

A lot op people who upgraded to JB wished they hadn't due to the new bugs that showed up and the increased battery drain. Perhaps you will want to reconsider, thank your lucky stars, and stay on ICS until the JB issues are resolved.

If you do plan to go to JB then it is a 99% certainty that you will do a FDR (Factory Data Reset) right after you do the update. That being the case you could to an FDR now, see if it cleared the issue and allows the update, and then after the update do another FDR to get on a clean slate.

All of this assumes you are not root-ed and have never been root-ed.

Thanks Thom. ICS is working very well for me and I thought about not upgrading to JB so perhaps the delay is a good thing as you suggest.

In my direct experience and reading what everyone else has said ... ICS followed by FDR solved just about all outstanding problems. IMNHO it set a new standard for the quality of Bionic system updates.

    JB is less than that.

To me, using the words " a lot of people" seems to be an exaggeration and to be more accurate should be something more like several people have had issues with issues such as a battery drain etc... by no means does it appear to me that it is any sort of majority

Of the ones that did have the issue... several ( including myself ) were able to address it simply by clearing the system cache files. I'm currently seeing about 10% better battery usage than before ( ICS I had 60% at end of day, JB I now see about 70% left ).

A few have mentioned that they thought the new "Google Now" may be a possible culprit but the numbers so far reporting it are limited so it appears too early to tell. I disabled my own Google Now as a test and saw no gain in remaining battey, so if it does cause trouble on some... it appears to be a limited number maybe. Along this same line of thinking... I do have my SmartActions frozen ( on purpose since I don't need it ).

Overall... my own experience has been a positive one primarily because I gained additional battery life. To me, JB does run smoother than ICS. Initialization of the voice commands appears a little slower but at the same time, more accurate ( I've got a southern accent that affected accuracy on ICS but doesn't appear to on JB ).

I think it is mostly hit and miss as to what will improve things and what will not and I think the perception of better or worse battery life is very subjective.

I did not do a FDR moving from ICS to JB and I initially saw roughly the same battery life as I had in ICS, maybe slightly improved. I cleared caches as noted and it seems now like my battery life is a little worse than before. But, I have noticed my phone stays at 100% longer now. I use the 1% battery hack in ZDBox to monitor the battery in the status bar and in ICS, as soon as I unplugged it would drop form 100% to 99% immediately and was down to 95% in 10 minutes even with no use at all. Now, it slowly creeps from 100 to 99 to 98... but at the end of the day I'm still at somewhere between 30 and 40% battery left. I have 2 extended batteries that I swap and both perform about the same.

So, is my battery life worse? or better? or did the system just recalibrate itself to give me numbers that I want to see?

    I don't really know...

To me, JB does seem more polished and a bit snappier than ICS. But again, that is subjective too. ;)

Yes it is subjective and hard to quantify.

I have had GPS turned off for a few days and it seems to help with the battery drain problem. My guess is that some app is a heavy GPS user in the background and that is the cause. It is hard to pin down.

At least the Bionic (unlike the Razr) retained Mass Storage mode in USB connections to a PC.

Perhaps the running smoother could be called subjective... but...

I don't see how my getting 10% more battery life by the end of the day... nor on the other hand, the other folks who are having short battery life issues ... can be called subjective. Neither scenario is or can ever be called subjective...

    Great.

Did you determine what was preventing the installation? Put another way ... what did you do that allowed the installation to start?

I am not sure what was preventing the installation. However, if I had to speculate,I would say it had to do with roaming. I am currently travelling in Canada and JB was downloaded while roaming. Yesterday I came close to the USA border with Canada and I may have picked up Verizon signal which may have prompted the installation.
This did not occur with the previous updates.

My remaining battery % can vary 10-15% on what I would always consider "normal" use. Do I judge it on the 30% left days or the 45% left days... subjective ;)

    BTW,
Apologies to the OP xguy for the sort of thread jack.

Its been a while since i've been on here but I just noticed my phone downloading an update today lol. I wasn't sure what was updating so I did a search online and sure enough it was JB. I didn't even know there was anymore updates after ICS.
