Well, I'm sorry you've managed to run into such a problem. You were braver than I was....I took my SGS (GT-I9000) into my local Samsung tech and had him do the upgrade to Gingerbread for me. I didn't want to end up with a problem such as yours.
My FW upgrade went very well, with no problems, so I'm convinced that using Odin is the best way to do it. It sure seems that Odin works better than Kies for upgrading, based on many reports I've read of problems encountered by owners trying to use Kies.
I strongly suggest you take your device to someone who knows the device well, either to a Samsung store that has a qualified Samsung tech, or to another tech who (you know) can fix the problem.
You may get someone to post some helpful suggestions here in the forums, but unless you're pretty tech savvy yourself, I think your best bet is to turn it over to a pro.
