I'm probally being an a$$ here but I really don't want best buy to crack my new xoom open and play with before I do.

Am I the only one that feels this way? I know they have to activate it and all but I want to be the first lol. I'm paying 900 plus don't touch it please ;)

So what do you all tell the best buy guy?

I don't know how they would... theres gotta be some type of seal or something, and even then... How many times have you bought something from walmart and had the fun of trying to fit in back in the box to return it.. its hell and you end up bending the box and what not.

When I bought the galaxy tab they opened it up to activate. Same with phones. :(

I just want to put my email in myself and go fack around with it myself at work. :D

Don't know why it's necessary. In order to use a smart phone, they have to be activated on a data plan before they are active. I ordered my Incredible, had it shipped to my house, called the number that came with it, set it up and badda bing badda bang, had my phone up and running. I don't think I will let them open my box. I'll open it and set it up myself thank you. :D

As much as I would love for them not to touch it either, from what Aokay has said they have to activate the device before it leaves the store

    So, this is the skinny.

In order to activate it we do have to open it and run through the process for two reasons.

    1) to make sure it works and there is no problems. We have a walk out working philosophy, to make sure you don't have to come back or call tech support if it doesn't work.

    2)...actually I don't have a two.

To be honest, I usually will have the person unbox it and then I'll activate it if they don't know how. I know if I was on the other side I would feel the same, and come Thursday, I will do it myself ;) (for mine, that is)

this is the same thing other bby reps stated about the evo.

matter is, aookay, you say you would let the person handle it themselves. if others would allow this then it would not be such a big deal to crack it open at POS...

On the one hand it has been touched by hundreds of people at the factory being made tested etc. On the other, I hate how smug people at best buy can be. One difference is when I open a device I do it very carefully and keep everything. I don't tear bags crinkle papers etc. This helps in resale. I doubt best buy will be this careful.

I also very carefully inspect the screen for dead pixels and I don't leave unless I am satisfied with the unit

    POS?

Are you speaking in Best Buy? lol

I do, especially when it's a new release and I really like to make the customer feel, empowered? I know it sounds silly but I open tons of them a day, it means nothing to me to open another one, as it would to the customer :)

Never really thought about this until now.

I want them to take my money, hand me the box, and I walk out of the store. Done.

Reports for today, Thursday launch day, are saying Verizon isn't forcing the one month activation. I wonder if Best Buy will now back down from this. I might refuse the purchase (have one pre-ordered) and see if they change their minds if I'm prepared to walk away?

I personally have had very good luck with BB, a friend of mine works there and he told me all you have to do is ask them not to open it. They are "supposed" to make a verification call but you can have them waive that. With OTA programming now you can do it yourself but you have to request an unopened product. All of the numbers they need are on the box to activate it. If a standard rep will not do this ask for his manager and explain to him/her "nicely" your intentions. Many of the reps will actually finish the sale and let you play with it a bit right there and still help you verify that everything is working.
