1. Are you ready for the Galaxy S20? Here is everything we know so far!

I dont get a text notification/sound if I stay in the text, even if I turn the screen off.

So I keep missing texts cause the phone doesn't give me a notification. I understand why it would be muted if I am still looking at the text screen but it seems to me it should make a sound if I turn the screen off. I dont want to have to stare at my phone waiting for a reply, or have to remember to close out of the text so I get a notification.

Is there any way to fix this?

If you're using the stock texting app try using an alternative. I've become quite partial to Textra but there's lots of them to pick from. If you don't want to download another app try using Hangouts as your text app since it's already on your phone.

I have an AT&T Note 4 and have the same problem. I took it to the AT&T store and the phone support staff said that's a built-in feature of the Note 4. I don't like it :(

No way to fix it at this time until Samsung acknowledges its an issue and fixes it with a software update. All Note 4's and Samsung Galaxy s5's have this issue. It is not carrier related either so its between Google and Samsung to fix the glitch.

Using Google Messenger, I just noticed that I got the notification while staring at the message open from my wife. It did not pass it on the the Moto360 (not sure if because the message as open - no notification in the notification pane either), but the phone did make the notification sound.

Have you tried downloading the app NILS? It literally stands for Notifications In Lock Screen. Idk if it would work for you but it might.

So, when your screen times out, does the device lock? Or is the device set to lock X seconds after the screen times out?

I get notification if my screen turns off AND if the device is locked. I normally have my device set to lock 15 seconds after the screen times out, but I just set my device lock timeout to 0 seconds after screen timeout to test this and even though I am in my messaging app, if the screen is off (meaning it is now also locked for this test), then I get the notification sounds.

Can you let us know if this test works for you?

EDIT: never mind, I use Light Flow to handle notifications, that's more probably why it works for me than the device lock timer.

Its not a lock screen issue. The issue is once the default messenger app is open, there is no more sound notification that a text is waiting to be read.
